Notes from the Elementary/Junior High Principal

The shelves are stocked with school supplies. The back-to-school sales are on at the department stores. Families are reading the August newsletter. All signs that summer is quickly coming to an end. It's hard to believe that in less than a month, the students will be walking through the doors with anticipation of another school year.

A fresh coat of wax on the floors, chalkboards that are shiny and black, walls that are freshly painted, could only mean that our custodial staff has been hard at work. Mr. Heisz, Mr. Eitsert, Mr. Gander, Mrs. Jones, Mr. Nutter, Mr. Peterson, and summer help Courtney Heisz and Ryan Skarda, have worked diligently to get our facilities in top-notch shape for the opening of the school year.

We sincerely appreciate the years of service that our departed staff members have provided for the North Crawford Schools. Mrs. Olson, Mr. Burkum, Mrs. Aspenson, Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Gillaspie, Mr. Clark, and Ms. Ivey have certainly touched the lives of many students. Their years of dedication and devotion to their jobs do not go unnoticed.

There are several exciting changes happening this year. You will notice the beautiful new piece of playground equipment on the elementary playground. Through the hard work of Mrs. Geary, Mrs. Molledahl, Mrs. Harden, and Mrs. Dalton, and through the support of the families and businesses of the school district, as well as the school board, we were able to purchase new playground equipment. The committee will continue to fund-raise and request donations this year to complete the playground renovation project with a second new piece of equipment next year.

We are continuing to make progress on updating the North Crawford web page. Soon, each teacher will have their own website containing valuable information for students and parents. Please visit www.northcrawford.com to check on the progress of the web page. Teachers are also accessible to families with email access. Staff email addresses are printed in this newsletter. We will be implementing a new student information software at school this year. One component of that software will eventually allow parents to securely view on-line their child(ren)'s progress at school, including grades and attendance.

The "Back to School Open House" will be held on Thursday, August 28th from 3:30 - 7:30. This is an opportunity for families and students to meet their new teachers, take a tour of the classroom, turn in required forms to the office, and pay the required fees. Enclosed in this newsletter you will find the "Fee Payment Form". For your convenience, you can complete the form, tear it out, enclose a check or cash, and bring it with you to the Open House. A co-curricular meeting will be held for all students who will be subject to the co-curricular regulations, and parents, in the performance center at 6:30 during the Open House on Thursday, August 28th. Junior High students and parents will be able to pick up their schedules that evening as well. Schedules will be with the homeroom teachers. Homeroom assignments are as follows:

  • 7th grade: A-L Ms. Fox-Gillespie - Room 307
  • M-Z Mr. Armbruster - Room 303
  • 8th grade: A-L Ms. Robel - Room 308
  • M-Z Ms. King - Room 310

Just a friendly reminder to please return all necessary forms - emergency cards, internet forms, field trip permission slip, etc. - promptly during the first week of school. Students will also bring home a parent/student handbook during the first week of school. Please take the time to review all of the important information found in the handbook. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 2nd. Students will have an early release at 1:00 p.m. the first day of school.

Our transportation guru, Mr. Turben, has worked extremely hard this summer getting our buses ready to transport the students. We are fortunate to be adding two new buses to our fleet this year. Please see that students arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled arrival time. If at all possible, we ask that parents/child care providers of our young students be visible when the child is being dropped off. This will ensure our drivers know that the child arrives safely. Please remember that if you send a note for your son or daughter to be picked up or dropped off at a different location, they will need to see Mrs. Randall for a bus note. If you are dropping off or picking up your son/daughter, for the safety of our staff and students, please do not drive in the bus lane. Finally, please take the time to review with your son/daughter important bus riding safety rules.

Enjoy the rest of your summer. Please feel free to stop in to school for a visit at any time. I am looking forward to another enriching and productive school year. Don't hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns you may have.

Respectfully,
Brandon Munson
